Solid first episode. Major plotlines and most main characters introduced. I'm curious as to how people that have not read the books picked up on it.
That dead direwolf was freaking huge.
Tyrion will steal the show, just like in the books.
I'm looking forward to seeing King's Landing, I thought the first episode's sets/background were right on.

Yeah, I think it was very well done. Originally missed the first 10 minutes of it (Why start on a non-standard time) But caught the beginning on the next showing. I think they did a great showing of the regions and the peoples. Look forward to the rest of the series.

They started the first one on time. I think the looped it 4 times. first one started at 8pm central, then 9:05.....

I really liked it. None of the changes bothered me at all.

I don't think many of the changes bothered me, but both Ny and I hated how they changed Catelyn's act at Winterfell to "oh please, don't go Ned" rather than the more correct "go Ned, you have no choice."

And I am having a hard time with the look of several of the cast characters. The actors are fine, they just don't look right to me.

I love Tyrion, Arya and Bran, though.

Ned, Sansa, John and Robb did not hit the spot for me. If anything the Actor that played Robb and John should have been swapped. Sean Bean will pull off Ned ok but I always pictured him as a burlier more gruff character.

Interesting. I thought Ned was just right, Sansa even more so - what a whiner.
Robb and Jon were similar but they are related so I don't really have a problem with them.

Interesting, I always pictured Ned as a bit more slender than the more wolf-ish Starks like Brandon. Maybe it's because he's so reserved and... well... stark.

The problem with Sean Bean is that he's just too old. Ned and most of the "youth" that survived the revolution are all around 35ish. He'll do the part fine, it's just not the right look. I've thought about an actor for Ned for years and could never really come up with one.

The only one that is just glaringly bad to me though is Varys.

Even if you just read the first three books it's well worth the time.
The first two are great and the third, Storm of Swords, is in my opinion the finest fantasy book ever written.

I've never read the books but the tv series is very good. I like Sean Bean and the King is a pisser to bad he had to get whacked "buy a Pig".

Kinjoh you'll have to excuse me if I reserve my choice of finest fantasy books ever written to the Dragon Lance original trilogy.

The poor king! I've only read the first book, and I'm delighted to see it brought to the screen with such vivid detail.

I'll just watch the continuing series

And yes, the first Dragonlance would be my favorite, but anything after and Hickman sucked

I will always have a spot for the lightness of the first several Xanth books and the first 3 Dragonlance books too. They got my wife interested in fantasy style books and although she's not hard core, at least it brought her to the tip of one of my worlds . (She loves Tasselhoff Burfoot (probably mispelled that))

That being said, back on Topic, that was quite the episode this past week for Thrones ! (thank goodness for friends that grab HBO stuff and put it on their PC's for their friends to copy, I've got all the episodes now at home and can watch them on the big screen TV whenever i want to go back and review ! wooters !!! )
