Hey guys, I just got an email from Blizzard this morning letting me know that my account was compromised. A quick check on the Armory showed that someone took Batheus (my Deathknight) out for a spin yesterday. I'm amazed at how quickly Blizzard detected this, but I'm also confused as to how someone got ahold of my account. I haven't logged in for about a year and I don't give my login info out. Also my computer seems to be free from viruses and key-loggers (I'm pretty careful about that sort of thing).

Has anyone else been highjacked?

Yeap! 3 times since November of 2009. I don't know why I'm so lucky. I don't play a lot either, this week I've logged in 3 or 4 times which is the most I have played the whole year.

I would not respond to the email from blizzard. Frankly, the spammers and farmers are more likely to be the ones writing you than Blizzard. They'll probably ask you for all kinds of information you shouldnt give them.

Instead, call blizzards tech support and make sure of the situation via the phone. Then go from there.

I was getting so many 'Your accounts been compromised, Tech Support , etc. it is ridiculous.

I finally, called blizzard to see what's up and i eventually swapped my email account associated with my account. But guess what, the spammers dont know that and I still get the 'warnings' on the old account.

I have to agree. People are getting very intellegent with their phishing attempts, sending email with links to sites with names like blizzard_admin.com or blizzard_accounts.com which make you think it is really an official blizzard site. I would ignore all of those and go directly to blizzard or call them on the phone and verify that they really need something from you.

I also cannot stress the need for people to use the authenticator. This stopped the attacks on my Wow account, as they need to put a code in when they log in to any of my Battlenet games which defeats their attempts. You can get an iPhone or other phone app or get a keychain fob that does the same thing. It is the best thing to come around in my opinion to help stop these account thefts.

Yeah, I didn't go through any links. Instead, I headed straight over to the WoW website and confirmed that my characters were active. Then I used the security page to let them know that I was highjacked. I'm still waiting for a reply.

Also, whoever took over my account must have activated the authenticator because I can't log in and they ask for a passcode (I'm guessing the one via the fob/iphone app).

*sigh*

How do you order one of the fob authenticators? None of my girls are near cap, but I'd hate to think of them dancing naked on the bridge in Ironforge

So go to your Battle Net account, and at the bottom there is a link to Protect your account. There you can see the options at the bottom to add an authenticator. The keychain authenticator looks to cost 6.50 + shipping. if you have an iPod, droid or other mobile phone that does apps, you can download their authenticator onto your phone for no cost.

Ever since having to sign up on Battlenet, I've received TONS of scam emails that appear like they are from Blizzard. I treat them all as fakes/scams. Thankfully though the email I signed up with was the one I used in case I got spammed anyway. Everyone in my family except me has been hacked. Knock on wood. At Christmas, I got Konnan and me the authenticators. I've been lucky. Now why can't that luck carry over into RL? hehe

My nephew has my old account which has Raineer on on it and it was hacked and I suspect my account with Eventin on it was as well. It had never been associated with a battle net account but when I try it tells me it has. Working on that now :/

I'm sorry, but Blizzard should start offering "free" security features for it's games. We all pay enough for online gaming today anyway. It's just crazy how everyone seems to be getting hacked lately & it's mainly "Blizzard" games. The excuse that WoW is the the most popular MMORPG out there & this should be expected just doesn't cut it in my book. Time Blizzard starting offering better security for it's customers.

Sorry to hear that Ev. Hmm, maybe that was when someone kicked everyone out of the guild on Scarlet Crusade The Super Special Investigator GMs were good at helping me recover my girls stuff last week. All the hearthstones and most quest stuff are gone, but all that is replaceable.

I wondered about that myself Eldon.

Now, if only I could get my fob to work or get it replaced. One step at a time! (Guess it is best to stay unguilded until that is resolved.)
