Hellas!
There's a big chance that Austria will have a go at conquering the US yet again. The past tries were kinda lame, but now that we passed eight million people mark, we're going to launch a full scale, all out, no regrets, two man invasion.
*Update*: Everything is booked and we'll be in NYC from Sept. 25 - 30 and inLV from Oct. 1 - 4.
Needless to say I would love to meet people in the area. I'm not looking for a person to play sightseeing guide, but every tip of what to see and where to drink will be much appreciated. Especially if you guys have tips in regards of hotels or some place to stay.
Let me know!

What kind of budget do you have Nerun? I've got a couple "NY NY on the Cheap" guide books ... but you can spend $100$ in a minute easily

Looks like I'm going to extend my visit a bit and split time between NYC and Las Vegas. I updated the original post.

Anyone got tips for where to stay in Vegas?
Right now we're considering three options: - Bill's Gambling Hall: very cheap while at the Strip and good reviews - Hard Rock Hotel: good price for rooms and probably our main poker place - Venetian: still affordable even through you're staying in a 5-star palace Oh, and of course I'm still open for suggestions where to stay in NYC on a budget.

Bill's is an interesting place. I haven't stayed there, but I have hung out in the casino a bit. It is one of the older places on the Strip. I haven't been to Hard Rock, I think it is slightly off Strip. The Venetian might be interesting. I like walking around that one.
As for preferences on where to stay, I think one place is just about the same as any other in Vegas. It is more a matter of what you want to do while you are there and then find a cheep place that is near it. My personal preference, is MGM or Excalibur. If you want to have a absolutely fantastic meal, make reservations for Michael Mina's at Bellagio. It will cost about $100 each, but it is crazy good. Far and away the best place I have ever eaten, anywhere.

Yeah, Bills is an older place. Not sure about the quality of the hotel, bu tthe price is right. It is near the middle of the stip, so its location is pretty good. I like the Hard rock, but it is off the strip, so you would need to grab a cab/shuttle to get anywhere, or walk .. but it is a slight walk to the strip. I have not stayed in the Venitian, but it looks very upscale, and so probably would not let me through the door (seriously, most people in the lobby were in suits and such .. not for me)
We stayed at the Excaliber the last time we did a group thing, and it was a lot of fun. it is at the end of the strip, near the Luxor and Hooters. it was not bad, and had a very good atmosphere. You can grab the Monorail right across the way at the MGM Grand, and it is close to New York, New York with all of the Rollercoasters and such. i think I woul dgo back there next time. I just got back from vegas the other week and stayed at Caesars Palace, and though the place was nice, and the location, pretty much across the street from Bills, I would probably not go there again, as the wait staff at the restaraunts were pretty bad, and there was nothing too phenaomenal abou tthe place. I felt I did not get my moneys worth for that trip. besides, it was a much older crowd in that hotel, though Bobby Flay's steakhouse up top had the best steak I think I have ever had in Vegas .. so worth a check out.

The Venetian has more of a posh feel to it, but the Hard Rock might have more of a fun crowd there. Both cool places. Have never been to Bill's.
Did you manage to connect with Quolo?

Just got back from Vegas yesterday. Had a blast at the poker tables. We stayed at the Monte Carlo because it was a steal of a deal at $39/night. Very nice hotel too. Definitely look around at websites like http://www.vegastripping.com/vegasdeals/ for coupon/discount codes.
In NYC a few years ago we stayed at the Affinia which was nice, great location, very small rooms, but reasonably priced. Worth a look if you haven't book anything yet: http://www.affinia.com/New-York-City-Hotel.aspx?name=Affinia-Manhattan Have a great trip! |
